Vintage dates were almost identical in 2015 to the previous year, with marginally higher crops, and a slightly milder overall amount of heat, which lead to early and unimpeded ripening. Tannins seemed a little less prevalent and perfume a little prettier and more delicate, with fruit flavours tending to the red rather than black. Similar to last year, the wine is a blend of Hyde Park Vineyard (60%), the cooler, 45 yr old Westgate Vineyard (29%) and the balance from Rice’s Vineyard (11%). As always, wild yeast fermented, with a variety of fermentation sizes and shapes, some with whole bunches, some destemmed. This year’s wine has soft, fine tannins, carbonic maceration strawberries and cream notes, and generous red fruits mixed with subtle, herbal stalk influences. another good vintage, more lifted and soft and approachable early. Unfined, unfiltered, as per usual.
