Our 8th release from Whitlands, and the third cool vintage in a row. The Croucher Vineyard is set at close spacing on red volcanic soils, up at around 800m above sea level, and was planted in the mid-1980s. It is proper cool-climate viticulture - something I think Riesling really needs to give full expression.
GOLD 95 Points "Light colour and a complex, possibly barrel-influenced bouquet that is multi-faceted and charming, at the same time obvious varietal riesling. Mouth-watering acidity and a crisp, intense, dry balance on the palate. Utterly delicious riesling in a more adventurous style. There's a judicious touch of sweetness in the centre, then sherbety acidity completes the balance beautifully. This would be great with a serious chill." 25 Nov 2024, Huon Hook - The Real Review
